Stranraer and District Local History Trust was constituted in 1998 at the instigation of the Stranraer and District Chamber of Commerce.
The objectives of this Trust are to research, record and publish information on local history for the benefit of the community.

Stranraer in Edwardian Times
Since its foundation the Trust has sold more than 30,000 books, covering every aspect of life and history of the people and places of the town and surrounding district and has also recorded the stories of working life and leisure of the inhabitants of this corner of Scotland with the creation of a collection of recorded discs and tapes and written manuscripts which are available for public research.
We have also actively encouraged and aided the local authority and other bodies in archaeological research and the development of historic walks and trails and the provision of plaques and markers for appropriate sites.
