Stranraer History Trust was set up in 1998, and is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers.

The objectives of this Trust are to reasearch, record and publish information on local history for the benefit of the community.

SELLING ALMOST 39,000 BOOKS

Since its foundation the Trust has sold almost 39,000 books, covering every aspect of life and history of the people and places of the town and surrounding district and has also recorded the stories of working life and leisure of the inhabitants of this corner of Scotland with the creation of a collection of recorded discs and tapes and written manuscripts which are available for public research.

We have also actively encouraged and aided the local authority and other bodies in archaeological research and the development of historic walks and trails and the provision of plaques and markers for appropriate sites.
